One of the most crucial things in doing business on the internet is search engine marketing or SEO. Without the search engine placements in your primary keywords buyers of your products and services will never find you.
Worldwide Internet Saturation
One of the first questions I am always asked is how many people are searching on the internet. The answer to that question has many different levels. Below are some of the most recent statistic for internet usage penetration.
- Over 1 billion people worldwide are using the internet.
- 68% of all North American homes have internet access. That over 225 million homes in the US, Canada and Mexico alone.
- Over 290 million people are using the internet in Europe.
- 15.7% of all homes in the world are surfing the net.
Everyone of the people above use some sort of search engine to navigate the internet. That's a lot of potential clients and customers.
Search Engine Popularity
The second question is almost always, "Which search engine is the most popular?". It use to be that Google was the end all of search engine marketing and the engines did not matter. While that is somewhat true today it is becoming more and more equal in regards to all the search engines. To the right is the percentage of internet searches done in november 2005.
This graph tells us that it is more and more important to perform good marketing in regards too all engines and not just Google.
